How to remove Copilot Search feature in Microsoft Edge

I have removed the Copilot app entirely from my computer, but the Copilot Ai-generated search results still pop up when I search things in Microsoft Edge. The commonly used options to remove are not there for me - the Sidebar does not have 'App-specific settings' or 'Copilot mode' listed as many people have done. How else can I remove it? Thanks in advance

    Hello Bridgette,

Uninstalling the Copilot app from Windows would not remove AI features that are part of Microsoft Edge or Bing.

From what you described, the important distinction is where the Copilot result is appearing. If it appears directly on the Bing search-results page, the Copilot Mode, sidebar, and context settings mentioned in the other answers are controlling different Edge features.

I could not verify an official Microsoft setting that specifically disables AI-generated results within Bing Search for a consumer account, so I would not recommend continuing to look for the missing Copilot Mode or App-specific settings.

If you want to avoid those Bing results, the practical option is to change the default search engine used by Edge. In Edge, open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected services > Address bar and search, then choose another provider under Search engine used in the address bar.

    Follow these steps:

    • Open Microsoft Edge
    • Go to Settings
    • Select AI innovations
    • Go to Settings, then AI innovations in the left pane.
    • Find Copilot Mode and Turn Copilot Mode Off.
    • Close and reopen Edge, then test typing a query in the address bar again.

If the goal is to stop Copilot-related search behavior in Edge, the supported options in the available guidance are:

    1. Turn off the Copilot-focused experience in Edge.
      • Open Microsoft Edge.
      • Go to Settings.
      • Select AI innovations.
      • Locate Copilot Mode and turn it Off.
      • Restart Edge and test searching again.
    2. Change new tab focus back to the address bar, if that option is present.
      • In Settings > AI innovations > Copilot Mode preferences.
      • Find Focus on new tab page.
      • Set focus to the Address bar.
    3. Confirm the search engine used in the address bar.
      • Open Settings > Privacy, search and services.
      • Go to Address bar and search.
      • Under Search engine used in the address bar, choose the preferred search engine.
    4. If the Copilot button is still visible, hide it in Edge.
      • Open edge://settings/appearance/copilotAndSidebar.
      • Under App specific settings, select Copilot.
      • Turn off Show Copilot button on the toolbar.
      • If needed, set the sidebar to Off or Always on depending on whether the Copilot controls appear.
    5. If Copilot settings are missing in Edge, check whether policy is controlling them.
      • Open edge://policy.
      • Check HubsSidebarEnabled.
      • If it is Disabled, the sidebar and Copilot controls can be hidden by policy.
      • Also check ExtensionInstallBlocklist for the Copilot extension ID ofefcgjbeghpigppfmkologfjadafddi.

Removing the Copilot app from Windows does not remove Copilot behavior inside Microsoft Edge. Copilot in Edge is a built-in browser feature, and the documented approach is to turn off or hide the Edge feature rather than uninstalling the Windows app.
