Outlook cannot sycronize with imap server because it cannot log on. Everything else is working fine. I have not changed password or used it for years. How do I find out what my password is for Outlook?

Outlook does not show the existing password in a readable form. If the account password needs to be changed or confirmed, it must be checked or changed with the email provider, not recovered from Outlook.

    For classic Outlook:

    1. If the account has worked before and Outlook is now asking again, a common cause is that the password was changed with the email provider or the password expired.
    2. If the password is unknown, go to the email provider’s website or contact the email administrator to reset or verify it.
    3. After the password is changed with the provider, update it in Outlook.
    4. If Outlook keeps prompting during setup, confirm Caps Lock is off and that the username is the full email address.
    5. If the account is IMAP and Outlook never asks for a password during setup, make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked.

If IMAP authentication fails in Outlook 2016, Outlook for Microsoft 365, or Outlook 2019, one known cause is a password that contains Unicode characters such as ä, ö, ü. Changing the password to remove Unicode characters can work around that issue.

    Hi!

    1. First, I need to know what your IMAP email provider is (Google, Yahoo)?
    2. Is your email personal, corporate, or educational?
    3. Is your email from your custom domain (@yourname.com, @companyname.com), Microsoft (@outlook.com or @hotmail.com), Google (@gmail.com), or a third-party domain?
