I can't get my outlook to connect with my gmail/wix. It just says wait. My email will connect with old outlook though.

    Hi @John Schneider

I understand how frustrating it is when the account works in Classic Outlook but New Outlook remains stuck on “Wait.” This suggests the mailbox itself is working and the issue may be with the New Outlook app or its sign-in process.

Please close New Outlook, then open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options and select Repair. Reopen New Outlook and try adding the account again through Settings > Accounts > Your accounts > Add account.

If the issue continues, return to Advanced options and select Reset, then reopen Outlook and sign in again. Please be aware that resetting the app removes its locally stored settings.

It is also important to identify who hosts the Wix email. If the address is a Google Workspace mailbox purchased through Wix, add it using the Google sign-in window and approve the requested permissions. If Wix only manages the domain and another company hosts the mailbox, use the account settings supplied by that email provider instead.

You may continue using Classic Outlook as a temporary workaround while troubleshooting New Outlook.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

Since classic Outlook connects but new Outlook stays on Wait, the most likely causes supported here are Gmail IMAP settings and Gmail folder visibility over IMAP.

    Try this end-to-end check:

    1. In Gmail on the web, open Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    2. Under IMAP Access, make sure Enable IMAP is turned on, then select Save Changes.
    3. In Gmail, open Settings > Labels.
    4. Make sure Show in IMAP is enabled for at least Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail. Enable it for any other labels that need to appear in Outlook.
    5. After changing those settings, refresh Outlook. The documented sync refresh can take up to 15 minutes.

If the account was added but password/authentication keeps failing in Outlook, an app password may be required for some account types instead of the normal password.

If setup in classic Outlook ever fails as well, manual setup is available for third-party mail accounts:

    1. In classic Outlook, go to File > Add Account.
    2. Enter the email address.
    3. Select Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually.
    4. Choose POP or IMAP.
    5. If needed, use these Gmail IMAP/SMTP settings:
      • Incoming IMAP: imap.gmail.com, SSL, port 993
      • Outgoing SMTP: smtp.gmail.com, SSL port 465 or TLS/STARTTLS port 587
