Connecting and synchronizing calendars across Microsoft Teams and other services like Outlook
To link Teams and Outlook calendars, the supported path depends on the account and mailbox setup:
- Sign in to both Teams and Outlook with the same Microsoft 365 work or school account.
- In Outlook, verify the Teams meeting integration is available:
- Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
- In Manage, select COM Add-ins > Go.
- Make sure Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is enabled.
- Restart both Teams and Outlook after enabling the add-in.
- In new Outlook, go to Settings > Calendar > Events and invitations.
- Turn on Add online meeting to all meetings.
- Select the default meeting provider, if available.
- If using Teams Essentials with an existing third-party email/calendar system, automatic forwarding from Exchange Online must be enabled before calendar connection works:
- In Microsoft 365 Defender, go to Email & collaboration > Policies & rules > Threat policies > Anti-spam.
- Open Anti-spam outbound policy (Default).
- Select Edit protection settings.
- Under Forwarding rules, set automatic forwarding to On – forwarding is enabled.
Important limitation:
- If Outlook is using Office Standard 2016 without Exchange Online support, the Outlook calendar cannot sync with Teams.
If the calendars still do not synchronize after the same-account check and add-in verification, the most likely issue is that the mailbox/calendar platform does not support the Teams calendar integration being used.
