Activation windows

That message usually means Windows is using an organization volume license and is trying to reach that organization’s activation server.

Try these steps:

1. Check activation status:
   • Start > Settings > System > Activation
   • Review the message shown next to Activation status.
2. Run the Activation troubleshooter:
   • Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot
   • This option is available only when Windows is not activated.
   • An internet connection is required.
   • Administrator sign-in is required.
3. If the device belongs to a company or school:
   • Connect to the organization network or VPN.
   • Then try activation again.
   • If it still fails, contact the organization’s IT support.
4. If this is a personal PC and not an organization device:
   • The installed Windows edition may be using the wrong type of license.
   • In Microsoft Q&A examples, this “contact your organization” message is associated with a volume license/KMS installation, which is intended for organization-managed devices.
5. If Windows was previously activated and major hardware was changed:
   • A significant hardware change such as a motherboard replacement can prevent Windows from finding the matching digital license.
   • In that case, use the guidance for reactivating after a hardware change.
6. If needed, use the activation page or command prompt method to complete activation with an Installation ID and Confirmation ID:
   • Settings method: System > Activation > Activate by Phone
   • Command method: run SLMGR /dti in an elevated Command Prompt to get the Installation ID, then use the Product Activation Portal and enter the returned Confirmation ID with SLMGR /atp.

If the PC is a home device and the message specifically says it cannot connect to an organization activation server, the most likely cause is that the wrong Windows license type or edition is installed.
