On Windows 10 or 11:
- Right-click Start.
- In Windows 11, select Installed apps. In Windows 10, select Apps and Features.
- Find the Microsoft Office product to repair.
- Select Modify. If no option appears, select the three dots next to it.
- In How would you like to repair your Office Programs:
- Select Online Repair > Repair for the most complete repair.
- Quick Repair is faster, but it only detects and replaces corrupted files.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish.
On Windows 7 or Vista:
- Select Start > Control Panel.
- Under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
- Select the Office product, then select Change.
- If the installation is:
- Click-to-Run: select Online Repair > Repair.
- MSI-based: select Repair > Continue.
- Follow the remaining instructions on the screen.
Important:
- This repairs the entire Office suite, even if only Word or one app is failing.
- If Office files still do not open correctly after repair, run Quick Repair from Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Office > Change > Quick Repair.
- If documents open in the wrong Office app, file associations can be corrected in Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs.
