Azure for Students verification succeeded, but subscription was not provisioned — AADSTS16000 blocks support access

I successfully completed the academic verification for Azure for Students.

I signed in with my personal Microsoft account and used my university email only for academic verification.

The verification page displayed:

“Congratulations! Your academic status has been successfully verified.”

However, the Azure for Students subscription was never provisioned.

Current state

  • Azure Portal shows no subscriptions.
  • Settings → Directories + subscriptions shows no directories available.
  • The portal only shows the current tenant/directory ID: f8cdef31-a31e-4b4a-93e4-5f571e91255a
  • The Azure Help + Support error identifies this tenant as Microsoft Services.
  • Retrying the Azure for Students signup returns: “Unable to complete Azure for Students verification.”
  • Azure Help + Support cannot be used because it returns: AADSTS16000

Troubleshooting already completed

I have already tried:

  • Chrome normal mode and Incognito
  • Edge InPrivate
  • Another computer
  • Enabling third-party cookies
  • Waiting more than 24 hours
  • Signing out and signing back in with the same verified Microsoft account

The issue is reproducible across browsers and computers.

I also found multiple recent Microsoft Q&A reports describing very similar symptoms: academic verification succeeds, but the Azure for Students subscription is not provisioned, no usable directory/subscription is available, and Azure Support access fails with AADSTS16000.

Because the Azure Support Portal itself is inaccessible due to AADSTS16000, I cannot create a normal Azure support request.

Could a Microsoft staff member or moderator please escalate this case to the Azure for Students subscription provisioning/onboarding team, or initiate a private message channel so that my account and provisioning state can be reviewed?

If additional account details, the Session ID, or academic verification information are required, I can provide them privately upon request. I will not post personal or academic verification information publicly.

Screenshots

Screenshot 1 — Academic verification succeeded Microsoft Academic Verification confirms that my academic status was successfully verified.

Screenshot 2 — Azure for Students signup failed After successful academic verification, retrying the Azure for Students signup still returns: “Unable to complete Azure for Students verification.”

Screenshot 3 — Azure Help + Support failed Azure Help + Support returns AADSTS16000, which prevents me from creating a normal support request.

Screenshot 4 — No subscription or directory was provisioned Azure Portal → Settings → Directories + subscriptions shows no subscriptions and “No directories found.”
