Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
In Outlook on the web and Outlook.com, attachments are tied to the specific message where they were originally sent. If someone replies in the same email chain, the attachment is not automatically carried forward into later replies. That is why an attachment mentioned in the conversation may not appear in the message currently being viewed.
To find it:
- Open the conversation and look for the earlier message where the file was originally sent.
- Use the search bar and enter anything remembered about the sender, message, or file.
- Select Files to narrow results to emails with attachments.
- If needed, select the filter button in the search box and check Attachments.
- Another quick option is Sort > Has files to show messages with attachments.
If using Outlook mobile:
- Open Search.
- Look under Files for recent attachments.
- Or type in the search bar and turn on the Attachments filter.
