Automatically make Team Channel Notifications appear

When creating a new channel in a team, or when getting added to a channel, my notifications for this new channel is never turned on. How can I turn on notifications for my channel as a default setting?

I have ran into many issues when @ing people for answers to questions that get answered much later than needed, just because that channel's notification isnt turned on

There isn’t a documented Teams setting to automatically turn on channel notifications by default for every new channel a user creates or joins.

What can be configured instead:

For all channels, change Activity feed behavior for posts and threads:
- In Teams, select Settings and more.
- Go to Settings > Notifications and activity.
- Turn notifications on or off for replies to followed threads and posts, and choose whether they appear in Activity feed and banner or only Activity feed.
For a specific channel, turn on channel notifications:
- Next to the channel name, select More options.
- Select Channel notifications.
- Turn on notifications for all new messages or posts.
- Choose Activity and banner or Activity.
For channels using the Threads layout, increase visibility further:
- In Channel notifications, turn on Include thread replies.
- Turn on Follow all new threads if new replies should appear in Followed threads. This does not notify in Activity.
For important threads, follow them manually:
- Hover over replies or a message in the thread and select Follow or More options > Follow thread.
- Threads are also followed automatically after replying, being @mentioned, or when someone starts a thread from the original message.

For the scenario described, the practical approach is to configure notifications per channel using More options > Channel notifications, and for thread-based channels also enable Include thread replies and Follow all new threads where needed.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how important it is to receive timely notifications from newly created channels, especially when important questions or @mentions require a prompt response.

Teams allows notification preferences to be configured for individual channels, but it does not document an option to automatically enable notifications for all new posts whenever a new channel is created, or you are added to one.

For channels where you would like to receive notifications for new activity, please try the following:

In Microsoft Teams, locate the affected channel.
Select More options (...), then select Channel notifications.
In Notify me for all new posts, select Show in Activity and banner.
Select Include thread replies to receive notifications for replies within threads.
Turn Follow all new threads to On.
Select Save to apply the changes.

Please configure these settings for the channels where you would like to stay notified of new posts and thread activity.
