Why do you require me to allow downloads before logging into my outlook account?

I cannot log into any of my school email/outlook accounts without allowing downloads.

It has been since I updated Mac OS yesterday.

    Dear Brad Swope,

The behavior you're describing is not a normal requirement for Outlook or Microsoft 365 sign-in. Since it started immediately after updating macOS, the issue is more likely related to the browser's handling of downloads, cookies, or authentication components than to the Outlook account itself.

To better understand your situation, could you please provide some more information as:

    1. Which browser are you using?
    2. Whether the issue occurs in Outlook Web, Outlook for Mac, or both
    3. The name and extension of the file being requested for download
    4. If possible, please share the screenshot of the issue so I can support you effectively (please hide/remove personal information in there)
    5. Could you let me know which version of macOS you recently updated to?

Please understand that the more information you provide, the more effectively I can support you.

In the meantime, here are some suggestions you may refer to:

    1/Test using a Private/Incognito window

Open a Private window and sign in to Outlook Web. For example:

    • Safari: File > New Private Window
    • Edge/Chrome: New InPrivate/Incognito Window

If sign-in succeeds there, cached cookies or authentication data may be causing the issue.

2/Verify whether the account is managed by your school

Because these are school accounts, the organization may use:

    • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Conditional Access policies
    • Device compliance requirements
    • Company Portal / MDM enrollment

If the downloaded file appears to be a profile or device-management package, your school's IT administrator may have recently enforced a compliance policy that became visible after the macOS update.

If the issue still persists, please update more information as my previous questions so I can support you more effectively.

    Looking forward to your update.
