problem with microsoft office word and excel

All of a sudden it appears my Microsoft Word and excel program are not working correctly. In Excel when I try and print a document in portrait orientation it automatically goes into landscape. If I can change a setting and do get it to move to portrait it cuts off near half of the document. Then I noticed in regards to Word... all my Word document, those that I create now or have been created in the past and saved on my computer have all sorts of symbols throughout the document. I have tried the online repair, safe mode, updating, the only thing I see left is to uninstall and reinstall. Do I have any other option? Will I lose all my documents when I uninstall the program? Will I ever be able to reinstall the program after? and if so how? I am running under windows 10, and have Microsoft office. I am getting a new updated computer but I have some very important legal docs that I need and I can lose them. Please help
