Hello,

I was reviewing the event logs of my laptop, and I noticed that I had multiple Critical Event error logs for "ID 10120 DriverFrameworks-UserMode" in the list. On Saturday, 9/12 alone I had EIGHT 10120 Critical Events, most within minutes of each other. I don't use any peripherals, no mouse or external keyboard or tablet, nothing like that. I have apparently had 672 10120 Events since 6/19/26. Unlike the other Usermode Driver Events I got, this one doesn't say what driver is the problem. All this event says is:

"A problem has occurred with one or more user-mode drivers and the hosting process has been terminated. This may temporarily interrupt your ability to access the devices.

Event 10120 means one or more user-mode drivers crashed and Windows terminated the driver host process. It does not necessarily mean that an EXTERNAL device is involved. Built-in devices such as Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, camera, audio, touchpad, or other laptop hardware can also use user-mode drivers.

The problem with 10120 is that it often does not identify the actual device in the General tab.

Can you double-click one of the 10120 events, go to Details > XML View, and post the information shown there?

Also, please check if there are any DriverFrameworks-UserMode events such as 10110, 10111, or 10121 around the exact same time. Those sometimes identify the device that actually failed.

I had no idea the events were connected! Thank you so much. I had one 10115 event for Detection Verification (location Detection Notification) and ten 10116 events for Goodix fingerprint sensor. So all in all, I have eleven 10115 or 10116 events and only nine 10120 events in the last week.... so maybe something's off besides those two things, but I don't know.

I downloaded the Goodix Fingerprint driver, and I just Googled how to fix the Detection Verification problem. Do you think it's worth it to upload the XML for one of the 10120 events that don't match up with an 10116 or 10116 event or should I just be satisfied that I've (probably) solved most of the problem?

I don't mind taking a look at the XML for one of the most recent 10120 one, just to make sure it is not related to the fingerprint sensor.

Would you be open to looking at the XML for the 10120, the 10115, and 10116? I thought I fixed the Fingerprint sensor and the Detection Verification thing, but I got errors for those again yesterday, too. I don't even USE the fingerprint sensor on my computer!!!

The 10120 event is directly related to the fingerprint sensor. It has the same LifetimeId and InstanceId as the 10116 Goodix event, and they occurred at essentially the exact same time. So I don't think that particular 10120 represents another unidentified device.

The 10115 is a separate issue. That detection verification device is part of Intel Smart Sound Technology, so it is related to the laptop's audio/voice detection driver stack.

Also, even though you don't use the fingerprint reader, Windows can still load its driver as long as the device is enabled.

Since both errors came back after you updated the drivers, I wouldn't keep randomly reinstalling things. If you never plan to use the fingerprint reader, one option is to disable the Goodix fingerprint device in Device Manager and see whether the 10116/10120 events stop.

For the detection verification error, I would use the Intel Smart Sound/audio driver package from your laptop manufacturer's support page rather than trying to fix that component separately.
