Unable to add Google Workspace to MS Outlook

I am unable to add my Google Workspace email to Outlook. After adding my credentials (for the "Add Account" process), it says "Sign in failed. Please try again in a few minutes.". It looks like the redirect page when validating my credentials isn't going through (the window stays blank).

Unfortunately, it's been giving me this error for a couple of days now. Any thoughts?

    Hi Spencer Chan,

I understand how disruptive this can be when the Google sign-in window remains blank and prevents the account from being added.

Since your post is tagged New Outlook for Windows, please first make sure New Outlook and Microsoft Edge WebView2 are fully updated, then restart Windows and try adding the account again from Settings > Accounts > Your accounts > Add account.

It may also help to sign in to the Google Workspace account directly in your default browser first. Then, in the Google Account security settings, review Your connections to third-party apps & services. If an existing Microsoft apps connection is listed, remove that connection and repeat the account setup in Outlook so that a new permission request can be created.

If this is an organization-managed Google Workspace account, please also contact the Workspace administrator and ask whether Microsoft’s OAuth access or third-party app access is restricted for the account.

Could you confirm whether the problem occurs only in New Outlook, or whether the same Google Workspace account also fails when added to Classic Outlook? This will help determine whether the issue is specific to the New Outlook authentication window. Thank you so much for your understanding.

For Outlook on Windows, this is commonly caused by the Google sign-in window failing during authentication rather than by the mailbox settings themselves.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. In Outlook, select File > Add Account and start the Google sign-in again.
    2. If the sign-in window shows Something went wrong, select Retry.
    3. When the Google permissions page appears, select Allow.
    4. If the browser sign-in completes but Outlook still fails, make sure the Google consent page includes the permission for Microsoft apps & services to “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.” If that box was missed, the sign-in can fail or the account may not sync.
    5. If the account was previously added and removed, add it again from File > Add Account and repeat the browser sign-in.

If the sign-in window stays blank, there is also a known Outlook issue when adding Google Workspace accounts that can show a JavaScript/browser error. Warning: the following workaround requires editing the Windows registry. Incorrect registry changes can cause system problems. Back up the registry first.

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Open Start, type regedit.exe, and press Enter.
    3. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
    4. Find OUTLOOK.EXE.
    5. Edit it, select Decimal, and set the value to 11001.
    6. Close Registry Editor and restart Outlook.

Note: while using that workaround, Outlook Today may not display correctly.

If the problem is specifically with classic Outlook and Gmail/Google sign-in, Microsoft also documented fixes in newer builds for Google sign-in failures and blank/failed browser-based authentication.
