Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
For this Outlook spam-style send block, use this order:
- Send a plain test message to the account itself.
- No links
- No attachment
- No signature
- One recipient only
- No copied or heavily formatted text
- If that works, the message content is the trigger.
- Remove links first.
- Keep the message short and direct.
- Avoid complex formatting or HTML-style content.
- Add content back gradually to find what causes the block.
- Check whether a stuck message is blocking sending.
- In classic Outlook, open Outbox.
- Start with the oldest stuck message.
- If it has a large attachment, remove it and send again.
- Some providers block large messages, and Outlook.com cannot send attachments larger than 25 MB.
- In classic Outlook, force a send/receive.
- Go to Send/Receive > Send/Receive All Folders.
- Verify internet connectivity.
- Open a browser and confirm normal web access.
- If the connection is unstable, Outlook may not send.
- Check antivirus email scanning.
- If antivirus is installed, look for Internet Email Auto Protect or Internet Email Protection.
- Temporarily disable only the email-scanning feature and test again.
- If sending fails only to certain people, ask the recipient to add the address to their safe senders list.
- If a non-delivery receipt is returned, review the exact reason in the bounce message.
Common causes include:
- invalid recipient address
- recipient mailbox full
- recipient server issues
- recipient spam filtering
- If using a newer Outlook.com account, sending may be temporarily limited until the account establishes credibility.
If the problem continues, use Help in Outlook.com and, if needed, Still need help? to contact support.
