A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
For Clipchamp for home, this behavior is usually handled with the project-loading steps below.
- Refresh the app/page first.
- Press Ctrl + F5.
- If that does not help, go back to the page where all video projects are listed, reload that page, then reopen the project.
- Try the project in the browser instead of Load in app.
- The web app and desktop app are functionally identical for video creation.
- This is specifically suggested when the desktop app has trouble opening projects.
- Check whether the original media files are still available.
- If Clipchamp cannot find the original files, it can ask to locate them again.
- If unsupported file types were added, that can also cause problems locating files. In that case, reload the page or sign out and sign in again, then reopen the project.
- If media or assets never finish loading, convert the source videos to MP4 outside Clipchamp and import the converted files.
- This can help even when the original files already use the MP4 extension, because the conversion can change the video/audio codecs to something Clipchamp can read.
- Free up system resources.
- Close other browser tabs and apps.
- Make sure free disk space is greater than the size of the video files used in the project.
- Clipchamp works best with at least 8 GB RAM; 16 GB or more is better.
- Disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers, privacy tools, or translation extensions.
- These can prevent Clipchamp from loading correctly.
- After disabling them, reload Clipchamp.
- Clear browser cache and restart the browser.
- Before doing this, make sure the original media files still exist outside Clipchamp, because the project may need to relink them afterward.
- Clear Cached images and files for All time.
- Then restart the browser with
chrome://restartoredge://restartand reopen the project.
- Advanced step: clear Clipchamp site data in Edge or Chrome Developer Tools.
- Warning: this purges Clipchamp editing and processing files stored for the site, so keep the original media files available in case relinking is required.
- In Edge or Chrome: 3 dots menu > More tools > Developer tools > Application > Storage > Clear site data.
- Refresh Clipchamp and open the project again.
- If the projects are OneDrive-backed and access errors started after moving to Clipchamp cloud storage, sign in to OneDrive to reactivate the OneDrive entitlement, then reload Clipchamp.
- If the computer is older or the projects are large, try opening the project on a different computer or split a long project into shorter ones.
Since signing out/in and reopening were already tried, the next best path is:
- try the project in the browser,
- refresh/reopen from the projects list,
- disable extensions,
- clear cache/site data,
- then verify the original source media is still available for relinking.
The “unsupported file” message when opening downloaded files from the hard drive is consistent with Clipchamp not opening project files directly as normal media files. If a specific media asset is the problem, converting that source media to MP4 is the supported workaround.
If none of these steps work, contact Clipchamp Support.
