Cannot remove organization in Teams

I have been added to Microsoft Higher Education community teams some years ago and it has been showing as an organization (Microsoft) in Teams.

I can no longer sign in to this, I get an error that my account is locked and our administrator says that the error messages received from the guest org is The guest user account is disabled. and User Account is not found for Fido Sign in flow.

I cannot leave the Microsoft-organization, because when I click on leave (under https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations) I am asked to sign in.

I tried sending an e-mail to the team [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]@microsoft.com, but I get a delivery failure "access denied"

    Dear @JessL

I understand the issue. The key error here is “The guest user account is disabled”, which indicates that your guest account in the Microsoft Higher Education community’s tenant is disabled. The additional “User Account is not found for FIDO Sign in flow” message is also consistent with the guest account no longer being able to complete authentication.

Because the Leave organization action at https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizationrequires you to authenticate to that organization first, you may not be able to remove the organization yourself while the guest account is disabled.

In this situation, I recommend contacting the administrator of the Microsoft Higher Education community tenant and asking them to either:

    1. Re-enable your guest account temporarily, so you can sign in and leave the organization yourself; or
    2. Remove/delete your guest account from their tenant directly.

Since the @microsoft.com address is returning “Access denied,” you will need to use another support/contact channel for the Higher Education community or Microsoft tenant administrators. Your own organization’s administrator generally cannot re-enable or remove a guest object that belongs to the external tenant.

If you no longer need access to this community, having the guest account removed from the Microsoft tenant is the cleanest solution. Once the guest account is removed, the organization should no longer remain associated with your account.

I would not recommend repeatedly attempting to sign in or reset FIDO/Authenticator on your side, because the underlying issue is the disabled guest account in the external tenant, rather than simply a problem with your local Teams application.
