Auto sent notifications to a channel even though setting has been disabled

The user has disabled notifications for a specific Teams channel, but notifications are still being automatically posted to the channel. The behavior continues even after confirming that the notification setting is turned off.

Expected behavior: No automatic notifications should be sent to the channel after the notification setting has been disabled.

Actual behavior: The channel continues to receive automatic notifications despite the notification setting being disabled.

Impact: This creates unwanted messages in the channel and makes it difficult for users to distinguish between relevant channel activity and automatically generated notifications.

Question: Could you please help confirm why Teams is still generating notifications after the notification setting has been disabled, and whether there is any known issue or workaround?

    Hi Edward,

    There may be a misunderstanding between channel notifications and messages automatically posted into the channel. Turning off a channel’s notification setting only controls the alerts a user receives for new channel activity; it does not stop apps, workflows, bots, connectors, or other services from posting messages to that channel.

    If actual automated messages are appearing in the channel, I would check the channel’s Workflows, installed apps/bots, and any incoming webhooks or external integrations to identify what is creating them. Disabling or modifying the source automation should stop the posts.

    If you mean Teams alerts are still appearing on the user’s desktop rather than messages being posted to the channel, please share what type of notification is still appearing, as mentions and certain other notifications are controlled separately.
