Hello,

We are experiencing an issue with Skype for Business on Windows 11 24H2.

When a user shares their desktop, the remote participant sees a black/blank screen with only the sharer's mouse pointer visible. The desktop content itself is not displayed.

Interestingly, the issue is resolved when the remote participant requests Give Control and the screen sharer accepts it. After control is granted, the remote participant can see the desktop normally.

Even after the remote participant uses Take Back Control, the desktop continues to be displayed correctly.

This behavior occurs consistently on Windows 11 24H2.

Could this be related to a change introduced in Windows 11 24H2, such as changes to DWM, desktop capture, graphics components, WDDM, or screen-capture mechanisms?

Is there a known compatibility issue between Skype for Business and Windows 11 24H2, or a specific Windows update/KB that could cause this behavior?

What would be the recommended workaround or fix?

Thank you.

    Good day Saeed

Just to gently clarify before going any further, this forum is separate from Microsoft Support. I don’t have the ability to access or investigate individual accounts because this is a user‑to‑user support forum.

As a fellow community user, I don't have access to internal investigation tools. I also checked the information currently available in the Microsoft 365 admin center and didn't find any published advisory, incident, or documentation that matches the behavior you described.

In the meantime, I recommend the following:

1/ Install the latest Windows updates, graphics driver updates, and Skype for Business client updates.

2/ Test Program Sharing instead of Desktop Sharing.

3/ Test with a single monitor and use the same display scaling settings on both devices where possible.

4/ Verify whether the issue occurs in both one to one calls and scheduled meetings.

5/ Confirm the exact Skype for Business client version and Skype for Business Server version in use.

Please note that the Skype for Business desktop client and Skype for Business Server are separate products. Having Skype for Business installed on a device doesn't confirm that the environment is using Skype for Business Server Subscription Edition.

    Regarding support availability:

Skype for Business Online retired on July 31, 2021.

Skype for Business Server 2015, Skype for Business Server 2019, and the Skype for Business 2019 desktop client reached end of support on October 15, 2025.

Skype for Business Server Subscription Edition remains supported under the Modern Lifecycle Policy when it is properly licensed and maintained on a supported build.

If your organization is using Skype for Business Server Subscription Edition, an authorized administrator can contact Microsoft Support for further investigation. If your organization has access to the Microsoft 365 admin center, the administrator can go to Support > Help & support, enter the issue details, and create a support request.

A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation, verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, they can escalate it to a specialized team for deeper analysis.

Note: In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

If the licenses were purchased through a Microsoft partner, your organization can also work with that partner to open or escalate the case.

If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
