My Hotmail account was compromised

My Hotmail account was compromised and the attacker sent emails from it. I immediately changed my password. Since then, I can send emails but cannot receive any new emails. Incoming test messages do not arrive even in Outlook on the web. There are no rules or blocked senders, storage is only 49%, and the Forwarding settings page will not open even in a private browser window. Please check whether there is an inbound mail restriction or forwarding setting on the mailbox as a result of the compromise.

Hi @diane tomlin

I’m sorry you’re unable to receive emails after securing your compromised Hotmail account.

Since the issue also occurs in Outlook on the web and the Forwarding settings page will not open, Microsoft Support will need to check whether there is an inbound mail restriction, unauthorized forwarding setting, or another mailbox-level issue.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.

To contact Microsoft Support:

  • Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support.
  • Select Show expanded list of products.
  • Select Outlook > Get Home support.
  • Enter Outlook live chat, then select Get Help > Contact Support.
  • Sign in with the affected account. If that is not possible, use another Microsoft account to view the available support options.
  • In the Support Assistant, type Talk to live chat agent, then select Contact Support.
  • Under Products & Services, select Other Products > Outlook, then choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser.

When connected, ask the support agent to check for an inbound mail restriction, unauthorized forwarding, or any mailbox-level setting left after the compromise.

Thank you for your understanding.
