Microsoft Outlook issues

Use a .pst file from the old PC, then import it into new Outlook on the new PC.

1. On the old computer in classic Outlook, export the mailbox to a .pst file.
   • This exports mail, contacts, and calendar items.
2. Copy the .pst file to the new computer.
   • A local folder on the new PC is the safest place to use it from.
3. On the new computer, make sure the email account is already added in new Outlook.
   • In new Outlook: View tab > View settings or File > Account info > Accounts > Your accounts > Add Account.
4. In new Outlook, import the .pst file:
   • Settings > Data files > Import
   • Under Outlook Data File (.pst), select Get started > Select file
   • Choose the .pst file
   • Select the folder to import from, then Next
   • Choose how to handle duplicates, then Next
   • Select the destination mailbox from Account list
   • Select the destination folder, or create one with New folder
   • Select Import
5. If only some items need to be moved, another option is to open the .pst and move mail manually:
   • In new Outlook: Settings > Data files
   • Outlook Data Files > Add file
   • Select the .pst file and open it
   • Then drag and drop messages or folders into the mailbox

Important requirements for opening a .pst in new Outlook:

• Classic Outlook must also be installed.
• Classic Outlook and new Outlook must use the same architecture, either 32-bit or 64-bit.
• The account used in new Outlook must have a Microsoft 365 subscription.
• Outlook Data Files are not supported with the ARM version of new Outlook.
• New Outlook cannot be running in Safe or Recovery mode.

If the goal is to move everything into the mailbox so it appears in new Outlook normally, importing the .pst is the direct method. If the goal is to review old mail first and copy only selected items, opening the .pst and dragging items is simpler.
