Gmail in Classic Outlook

My Gmail account functions correctly in Classic Outlook with no noticeable synchronisation issues:

Whenever I create a folder in Classic Outlook, it synchronises with Gmail and appears as a label.

Likewise, when I create a label directly in Gmail, it is visible as a folder in Classic Outlook.

All emails within folders/labels are displayed correctly in both Gmail and Classic Outlook.

Synchronisation between Gmail and Classic Outlook is reliable and consistent.

Gmail in New Outlook

I have experienced several synchronisation issues when using the same Gmail account in New Outlook:

If a folder is created in Classic Outlook, or a label is created directly in Gmail, it can take a considerable amount of time to appear in New Outlook.

Although the folder may eventually appear in New Outlook, the emails contained within that folder often do not synchronise or display correctly.

When a folder is created from within New Outlook, it does not appear in Gmail or in Classic Outlook.

This suggests that folder and label synchronisation between Gmail and New Outlook is either delayed or not functioning correctly.

Summary

Classic Outlook maintains full two-way synchronisation with Gmail folders, labels, and emails. In contrast, New Outlook appears to have inconsistencies with folder/label creation and email synchronisation, resulting in delays, missing folders, and folders that do not contain the expected emails.

I understand that your Gmail account synchronizes correctly with Classic Outlook, while New Outlook shows delays, missing messages, and folders that do not synchronize back to Gmail.

Please open Gmail in a browser, select Settings > See all settings > Labels, and confirm that Show in IMAP is enabled for the affected labels. Microsoft notes that a Gmail label created or renamed in Gmail may take up to four hours to appear as a folder in Outlook. Known issues syncing Google accounts to the Microsoft Cloud

If the folders or messages still do not synchronize, remove and add the Gmail account again in New Outlook to refresh the connection. For now, you may continue managing the affected folders through Gmail or Classic Outlook.

Hi Chloe,

Thank you for the follow up. I do appreciate it. I have checked the settings on Gmail, and I can confirm all ticked "show". Additionally, when a folder is created in Gmail in New Outlook, it does not sycnch to either the Gmail in Classic Outlook nor in Gmail App itself.

I have removed the Gmail account from New Outlook a day go, but still the same issue.

Thank you for confirming. Since Show in IMAP is enabled and removing and re-adding the Gmail account did not resolve the issue, the synchronization problem appears to be specific to New Outlook.

For now, please continue managing the affected folders through Gmail or Classic Outlook and contact Microsoft Support for further investigation.

If you have tried everything else - Nuke your New Outlook for Windows Profile. Deletes all local configuration files and cache. Resets the application to a first-run state. You will have to add back all of your email accounts. (Does not touch your email account data. e.g. email, contacts, calendar).

Remove the accounts, Nuke your New Outlook profile, and re-add the accounts from scratch.

View -> View settings -> Accounts > Your accounts
Pick an Account and [Manage]
[Remove]
(o) Remove from all devices (If you see it)
