changing the from when forwarding an email

I used ot be able to change the from line when i wanted to reply or forward an email that cam in to a generic email address. Now it just brings up a new email without adding in the information from the original email.

How can I change the from line?

This is what I am doing: i select the email, then select forward - now I wan tto change the from email - from example1@outlook to example2@outlook - whe I do this it opwns a new email without including the information inthe original email. I was able to do this with the old outlook.

New Outlook doesn't work like Classic. Other than a clunky manual Copy/Paste there is no solution.

All I can suggest is that you Vote for and Comment on this Feature request

Hi Betty,

Thank you for reaching out.

You can change the From address in New Outlook for Windows by following these steps:

Open the original message from the generic or shared mailbox.
Select Reply, Reply all, or Forward.
Select Options in the message toolbar.
Select Show From.

Select the address in the From field, then choose the generic email address.

If the generic address is not listed, select Other email address and enter it manually.

I also recommend opening the message directly from the shared mailbox under Shared with me, rather than from a search result or another folder. If the address is unavailable or you cannot send from it, your Microsoft 365 administrator may need to confirm that you have Send As or Send on behalf of permission for the mailbox.

When forwarding an email in New Outlook and changing the From address, Outlook opens a new message without retaining the original email content. Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Enable Inline replies and forwards

Open New Outlook and go to Settings > Mail > Compose.

Locate the setting for writing, replying to, or forwarding messages.

Select Write inline instead of opening the message in a new window.

Restart Outlook, then forward the email and change the From address again.

Repair Microsoft Office

Close all Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Open Windows Settings (press Windows + I).

Go to Apps > Installed apps.

Find Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Office in the list.

Select the three dots (…) next to it and choose Modify.

If prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.

Choose Online Repair > then select Repair.

Follow the on‑screen instructions until it completes.

Test Outlook on the Web

Sign in to Outlook on the Web.

Open the same email, select Forward, and change the From address.

Check whether the original email content remains in the forwarded message.

In new Outlook for Windows, changing the From line and preserving the original message are separate behaviors:

To change the sending account or address on a message, open the message window and select From above To, then choose the account to send from.
If From is not visible:
- Create a new email.
- Select Options.
- Select Show From in the Show fields group.
If Show From still is not available, the usual cause is that only one email account is in the Outlook profile. In that case, add another email account to Outlook.

For replies and forwards, Outlook normally sends using the same account that received the original message. For a new message, Outlook uses the default account.

If forwarding now opens a message without the original content, check the reply/forward format setting:

Select File > Options > Mail.
Under Replies and forwards, review When forwarding a message.
Set it to Include original message text if the original message should appear in the body.
Also review When replying to a message if the same issue happens with replies.

If the goal is to forward from a shared or generic mailbox address, the address must appear in the From list and permission to send from that address may be required.
