Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Blocking groups.outlook.com will not stop those messages from existing in the mailbox. In Outlook, blocked senders and blocked domains are treated as junk, which means the messages are moved to the Junk Email folder rather than being discarded.
For Outlook on the web or Outlook.com:
- Open one of the unwanted messages and check the message headers to identify the actual sender address or domain.
- Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
- Under Blocked senders and domains, add the exact sender address or domain found in the header.
- Select Add, then Save.
This matters because the visible From value can be spoofed or disguised, so blocking only the displayed groups.outlook.com domain may not match the real sending address.
If the goal is to reduce the risk of missing legitimate mail in Junk:
- Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
- Under Safe senders and domains, add trusted addresses or domains.
- Select Save.
If the messages are appearing in Junk Email already, there is no supported way here to stop them from arriving in that folder entirely. Rules do not solve messages already in Junk.
