family safety account

If two Microsoft accounts are involved in the family group, Family Safety controls can become split between them. The practical fix is to use the organizer account to clean up the family group so only the correct account manages the children.

1. Sign in to the family group at account.microsoft.com/family.
2. Check which account has the Organizer role. Organizers are the administrators of the family group and can add or remove members, manage limits and permissions, and view activity when reporting is enabled.
3. From the organizer account, review the family members and remove the duplicate or incorrect account.
4. If the account being removed is listed as a child, first select Remove consent next to that child account, then go back and select Remove from family group.
5. If an adult account is receiving Family Safety settings, only the family organizer can turn those settings off.
6. If a child has become an adult and restrictions are no longer wanted, the organizer can also turn off Activity reporting for that member from the family settings.

If the issue is that one of the accounts was accidentally created as a child account, changes still need to be made from the organizer account first before that account can be removed cleanly.
