Additional settings-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Try these steps in order:
- Check whether the camera is being physically blocked or disabled.
- Look for a privacy shutter or slider near the camera lens.
- Check the keyboard for a camera privacy key and toggle it.
- Open the built-in Camera app. If it shows a gray image, lock icon, or privacy screen there too, the issue is outside Teams.
- Check Windows camera permissions.
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Turn on Camera access.
- Turn on Let apps access your camera.
- If using Teams desktop, make sure Microsoft Teams is allowed.
- Close Teams and reopen it.
- If the problem happens in a browser, allow camera access in the browser.
- In Teams on the web, select the site permissions icon next to the address bar.
- Set Camera to Allow.
- Refresh the page and rejoin.
- In Edge, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Camera, and turn on Ask before accessing (recommended).
- If the camera is detected only sometimes or triggers freezes when starting, enable basic camera driver mode.
- Open Settings in Windows.
- Go to the camera settings for the device.
- Open Advanced camera options.
- Turn on Basic camera driver mode.
- Restart Teams and test again.
- Note: this may disable some manufacturer camera features, but it can improve reliability.
- If the laptop freezes and stops responding, force a restart.
- Press and hold the power button until the device shuts down and restarts and the Windows logo appears again, then release the button.
- If the issue continues, reinstall the graphics driver.
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics card > Uninstall device.
- Restart the computer.
- Download and install the graphics driver from the graphics card manufacturer’s official website.
- If the screen becomes unstable or flickers before freezing, reset the graphics driver.
- Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B.
If none of these steps fix it, use Give feedback in Teams and include a screenshot, logs if available, what appears on screen, and the troubleshooting already tried.
