For 5 minutes, Working on updates can still be normal. The bigger issue in the screenshot is 0x80080005, which is listed as a Windows Update problem that can be caused by corrupted files, permission issues, or incorrect system configuration.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check internet connection
      • Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
      • Confirm the laptop is connected to a stable Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
    2. Make sure the account has administrator access
      • Some updates require admin rights to install.
    3. Close and reopen Windows Update if the page does not load
      • If the update page freezes or does not show properly, close Settings and open it again.
      • Then check that these services are running:
        • Update State Orchestrator
        • Windows Update
      • Open Services by pressing Win + R, typing services.msc, and pressing Enter.
    4. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Windows Update and select Run.
    5. Clear the Windows Update cache
      • This can help when updates keep loading for a long time or fail repeatedly.
      • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Right-click Windows Update and select Stop.
      • Open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
      • Delete all files and folders inside it.
      • Go back to Services, right-click Windows Update, and select Start.
    6. Disconnect unnecessary external hardware
      • Remove USB drives, docks, and other external devices that are not needed.
    7. Check date and time settings
      • Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
      • Turn on Set time automatically.
      • If available, select Sync now.
    8. If it still fails, reset Windows Update components from an elevated Command Prompt
      • Warning: this renames update folders and restarts update services. Use the commands exactly as shown.
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator.
      • Run these commands one at a time:
    net stop bits
    net stop wuauserv
    ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak
    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv

    1. Restart the laptop
      • After the reset, restart and try Windows Update again.

If the update is only at 2% for a few minutes, that alone is not unusual. If it stays stuck for a long time repeatedly, the cache clear and component reset are the most relevant steps from the available guidance.

    Hi Shaik,

This is normal especially if you are

getting a Build Update and the .NET

update at the same time. Just let it continue.

Adding to what has been said:

The screenshot you posted shows that some old updates are being downloaded.

The 2026-09 update supersedes the 2026-08 Preview update.

    **

Go to Settings > Windows Update and toggle off the option for "Get the latest updates as soon as they are available".

    **

Restart Windows and check for updates. Your system will be offered the September 2026 Quality Update.
