Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
If Outlook for Windows is showing a wrong sender address such as outlook_[long series of letters and numbers]@outlook.com, use one of these supported fixes:
- Set the Outlook.com address as the primary alias
- Go to https://account.live.com/names/Manage and sign in.
- Set the Outlook.com email address as the primary alias.
- Then remove and re-add the account in Outlook for Windows.
- If the account uses a third-party address as the primary alias
- This issue can happen when a non-Outlook.com address is registered for the Microsoft account.
- A workaround is to switch the primary alias to an Outlook.com or Hotmail.com address.
- Alternative workaround for Outlook for Windows
- Close Outlook.
- Press Windows key + R, type
outlook /profiles, and select OK. - Select Options > New.
- Create a new profile.
- Choose Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually.
- Complete setup as an IMAP or POP account using the mail provider settings.
- Set the new profile as the default profile.
If the issue is specifically with Dynamics 365 App for Outlook showing that the email is not recognized, the primary email address in Exchange and the primary email on the Dynamics 365 user record must match. If one was changed, restart Outlook after updating it.
