Hello Loaney, Matt,
On a corporate laptop without admin rights you won’t be able to uninstall or reinstall the touchpad driver, so the fix has to focus on what you can change at user level. First, go into Settings → Devices → Touchpad and check whether “tap‑and‑drag” or “click‑lock” options are disabled; these directly control the ability to highlight rows and drag items. If you’re using a vendor utility like Synaptics or ELAN, open its control panel and reset the gesture configuration. If the settings look correct, try toggling the touchpad off and back on using the hardware function key (often Fn + F7/F9 depending on the laptop model).
If the driver stack is hung, a full reboot usually clears it and restores drag‑and‑drop. If none of these steps resolve the issue, the underlying driver package is likely corrupted and requires elevated rights to refresh. In that case, you’ll need to raise a ticket with your IT helpdesk, explain that drag‑and‑drop and row highlighting are broken, and note that you’ve already tested user‑level settings. They can reinstall or update the driver with admin privileges.
