Hi,
I'm hoping someone can point me at the right route to get a licence
re-associated with new hardware.
BACKGROUND
I bought a retail Windows 7 licence in 2011 as a standalone purchase
(not preinstalled on a PC) and later took the free Windows 10 upgrade.
That gave me a digital entitlement, so there is no purchase receipt -
free-upgrade licences never issued one.
Last week I replaced my motherboard and CPU. The Windows 10
installation itself is unchanged - I cloned it disk-to-disk to a new
SSD, same installation, same edition, Windows 10 Home.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW
Product ID: 00326---*****
- The product key stored on the machine installs fine: slmgr /ipk reports success
- slmgr /ato then fails with 0x803F7001
- Settings > Change product key fails with 0x803FA067
- The hardware-change troubleshooter returns 0x803FA067, because the licence was never linked to a Microsoft account
- Phone activation has been retired, and slui 4 produces no Installation ID screen, so aka.ms/aoh cannot be used either
WHAT I'VE READ
The support article for 0x803F7001 lists motherboard replacement as a
known cause, and gives the Microsoft account link as the exception path.
I never linked mine, so that route isn't available to me. Every other
option in the article has been tried.
WHAT I'M ASKING
Is there any remaining way to have this entitlement re-associated with
the new hardware, or a way to reach a support agent who can do it? I've
tried the contact flow on support.microsoft.com and it loops me back to
self-help articles without offering chat or a callback.
To be clear, I'm not looking for workarounds or third-party tools -
I just want the licence I actually paid for to work on the machine it
has always run on.
Thanks for any pointers.
