Azure Sponsorship GPU quota request for NCASv3_T4 fails with QuotaNotAvailableForResource

I am using a Microsoft Azure Sponsorship subscription and need access to one NVIDIA T4 GPU VM for a bounded AI compute validation workload. Target configuration:

  • VM size: Standard_NC4as_T4_v3
  • VM family: Standard NCASv3_T4 Family
  • Requested quota: 4 vCPUs
  • Regions tested: East US and East US 2 The VM SKU is visible in both regions with no SKU restrictions. Current quota shows: Standard NCASv3_T4 Family vCPUs: 0 / 0 I submitted the quota request through the Azure CLI using az quota update. The Microsoft Quota API accepts the request initially with HTTP 202, reports: isQuotaApplicable: true and creates an asynchronous quota request for 4 vCPUs. However, after processing, the request fails with: QuotaNotAvailableForResource I have reproduced the same quota failure in more than one region. I am trying to determine:
  1. Are Azure Sponsorship subscriptions eligible for NCASv3_T4 GPU quota?
  2. Does the subscription require a specific GPU/startup entitlement or classification before GPU quota can be granted?
  3. If T4 is not available for this subscription type, what is the smallest NVIDIA compute GPU family that can be enabled?
  4. Is a Microsoft support case required to have GPU entitlement enabled on a Sponsorship subscription? The workload requires only one GPU VM and is not cryptocurrency mining, GPU resale, or large-scale model training. I can provide the Azure quota operation ID, request IDs, and full debug trace privately to Microsoft support if needed

    Azure Sponsorship subscriptions are billing-classified as benefit subscriptions, and GPU VM families (NC, ND, NV series, including NCASv3_T4) are excluded from self-service quota increases on that subscription type by design. That's why the request succeeds at submission but fails during processing with QuotaNotAvailableForResource, and why it reproduces the same way in both East US and East US 2 (it's a subscription-level restriction, not a regional capacity issue).

    #1 - Sponsorship/benefit subscriptions are excluded from GPU family quota allocation regardless of region.

    #2 - Yes. If this subscription came from Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, it needs to be reviewed and tagged as a "GPU Startup" subscription before GPU quota requests can succeed. If it's a non-Startups Azure Sponsorship offer, there's no self-service entitlement path at all.

    #3 - No. The block applies to the GPU VM family category itself, not the size within it. Standard_NC4as_T4_v3 at 4 vCPUs is already the smallest T4 configuration, so a smaller request won't get around it.

    #4 - If you're on Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub credits, open a support ticket through the Founders Hub support portal, citing your Azure subscription ID and the quota request/operation ID, so the Startups team can review GPU eligibility and tagging.
