Lost connection in outlook for my email account.

All of a sudden, this afternoon, I lost access to my gmail account in outlook. It kept asking me to log into google to grant it the necessary permissions and then provided me with the following error message - {"SessionId":"a3f89ce5-7910-5a4f-945e-1ef371877847","Timestamp":1789373790343,"Error":"INTERACTIONREQUIRED"}.

I don't know whether this is a temporary glitch, or something else. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated.

There is a problem with Outlook this morning which is giving users a 500 error code but just in case this isn’t the cause in your case when you’re asked to authenticate are you taken to a Google sign in page in order to do this or does the error occur at that time?

When browser are you using? If you change the default browser to a non Chrome related one does the same error occur? If yes then it may be the temporary glitch Microsoft is experiencing.

Outlook classic isn’t compatible with the new OAUTH 2.0 security protocol so you either will need to upgrade to a newer Outlook, create & use an app specific password (less secure though) & enter this instead of the account password or use a more modern email client like Outlook new or Firefox.

For classic Outlook on Windows, this is commonly a Gmail OAuth sign-in issue rather than a mailbox outage. The most direct fixes are:

    1. Update Outlook first
      • Open Outlook or another Office app.
      • Go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • Restart Outlook.
    2. If Outlook shows the Gmail error window, use Retry
      • On newer fixed builds, select Retry in the error window.
      • During the Google browser sign-in, make sure the permission is checked for: “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.”
      • If that box was missed earlier, Outlook can fail to reconnect.
    3. Make sure IMAP is enabled in Gmail
      • In Gmail on the web: Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > Enable IMAP > Save Changes.
      • If IMAP is off, Outlook can show Gmail setup or sync failures.
    4. If Outlook still will not prompt correctly, clear the saved Gmail OAuth credentials
      • Close Outlook.
      • Open Credential Manager from the Windows Start menu.
      • Go to Windows Credentials.
      • Under Generic Credentials, find entries starting with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2.
      • Remove the entries that include tp_google_imap_Oauth2.
      • Restart Outlook and sign in to Gmail again.
    5. If sync stopped after a password change, wait up to one hour or force a new sign-in
      • After a Gmail password change, Outlook may not prompt immediately.
      • Microsoft notes it can take about one hour for the OAuth token to expire.
      • Removing the saved OAuth credentials as above can force the sign-in prompt sooner.
    6. If adding the account still fails, verify Gmail folders are exposed to IMAP
      • In Gmail: Settings > Labels.
      • Ensure Show in IMAP is selected for at least Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail.

If the issue started suddenly the same day and no password was changed, it can be temporary, but the credential reset in Credential Manager is the main documented workaround when Outlook stops syncing and does not properly prompt for Gmail sign-in.
