My Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 was previously used for school and currently has Windows 11 Education installed. I have graduated, and the laptop is now for personal use.

I reset the laptop, but it still runs Windows 11 Education and displays the "Activate Windows" message. I no longer have access to my school's Windows licence or account.

How can I remove Windows 11 Education and switch to the Windows edition originally licensed for this laptop, such as Windows 11 Home? Will I need to perform a clean installation, and should Windows activate automatically using the product key embedded in the laptop?

    Most lower cost machines come with Windows Home. Erasing the SSD and installing Windows 11 fresh should detect the OEM license on the machine and it will then activate fine.
