Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
In classic Outlook, calendar colors can be changed in a few different places depending on what changed:
- To change the background color of the calendar currently being viewed:
- Open Calendar.
- Go to the View tab.
- Select Color.
- Choose the color wanted.
- To change the default background color for all calendars:
- Go to File > Options > Calendar.
- Under Display Options, select Default calendar color.
- Pick the color wanted.
- If the same color should apply to all calendars, select Use this color on all calendars.
- If the changed colors are category colors on appointments or meetings:
- Open Calendar.
- Right-click the appointment, meeting, or event, then select Categorize.
- Select All Categories to open the Color Categories dialog box.
- Change the color associated with the category name.
- If only one calendar needs a different background color:
- Open Calendar.
- Right-click anywhere on that calendar.
- Point to Color.
- Pick the background color.
If the issue is that previously assigned event colors now look different, that usually means the category color changed rather than the calendar background color. In classic Outlook, category colors can be edited from Categorize > All Categories.
