Deleting file in OneDrive error "Request was cancelled by event Received....", Found a method.

The issue occurs when trying to delete a file that access exists for, but still doesn't allow action.

Hopefully this helps anyone else with the same issue.

The short and sharp of it -

I renamed the file "To Delete" (really any short placeholder should be fine), then it let me delete it.

I noticed 2 things, but don't know if relevant so anyone who has the same issue feel free to verify:

  1. The file name started with an emoji
  2. The file name was longer than most
  3. The file had been shared by the original user... to the same user.

    Thank you for sharing this workaround. Renaming the file to a shorter name and removing emojis or other unusual characters is a valid troubleshooting step, and it may allow the file to be deleted successfully.

    However, based on the issue message and the discussion in the linked Microsoft Q&A thread, the issue may also occur when the account, OneDrive location, or content is subject to a retention policy or an eDiscovery hold. In some cases, a hold might not be immediately visible to the affected user. OneDrive retention and deletion - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

    I recommend trying the suggested renaming workaround first. If the issue persists, please contact your IT Admin and ask them to verify whether any retention policy, eDiscovery hold, or hold grace period is preventing the deletion.
