Using New Outlook on Windows for academic communication and scheduling
Dear @Chidimma-8931
I understand that you want to automatically redirect school-related messages from your work mailbox to your school mailbox, but the rules you created are not taking effect and Run Rule Now is greyed out.
To narrow down whether this is related to the Outlook version or the rule configuration, could you please confirm the following?
- Which Outlook are you using?
- New Outlook app for Windows
- Outlook on the web
- Where did you create the rule? Please provide the exact path, for example Settings > Mail > Rules or File > Manage Rules & Alerts.
- Could you provide a screenshot of one affected rule, showing its conditions and actions? Please hide any email addresses or other personal information.
- Does the rule work automatically for new incoming messages, or does it fail completely?
- Are the work and school accounts both Microsoft 365/Exchange accounts, or is either account a personal Outlook.com account?
Please try these simple steps:
- Create a new rule in Outlook.
- Use a simple condition, such as From or Subject contains.
- For the action, select Redirect to and enter your school email address.
- Do not select options such as “on this computer only” or actions involving local folders.
- Save the rule and send yourself a new test email that meets the condition.
If the new test email is still not redirected, please let me know which Outlook version you are using (New Outlook or Outlook on the web) and provide a screenshot of the rule.
The Run Rule Now option is particularly useful for identifying the Outlook version involved, because its availability and behavior differ between Classic Outlook and the newer Outlook experiences.
Once I know these details, I can determine whether the issue is with the rule itself, the Outlook client, or an account/organization restriction.
