Try these steps in order:
- Go to the OneDrive website and search there first.
- Sign in at https://www.onedrive.com
- Use Search everything at the top.
- Search by more than just the filename: try dates, places, tags, or words related to the photos.
- Photos in Personal Vault do not appear in normal search results.
- Check the OneDrive Recycle Bin again.
- On the left side of the OneDrive website, select Recycle bin.
- If the photos are there, select them and choose Restore.
- If Personal Vault is used, select Show Personal Vault items in the recycle bin to see deleted Personal Vault files.
- Check whether the photos are in another Microsoft account.
- If both personal and work/school accounts exist, the photos may have been saved to the other OneDrive.
- Sign out and sign in with the other account and search again.
- Check local storage.
- Use File Explorer or Finder to search the computer.
- Check the computer’s Recycle Bin or Trash.
- On mobile, use the device’s Files app to search.
- If using Microsoft 365, restore the whole OneDrive to an earlier point.
- Open Restore your OneDrive.
- This can undo changes from the last 30 days.
- Warning: files or folders created after the restore point are moved to the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
Important:
- For personal OneDrive, deleted files are kept in the OneDrive Recycle Bin for 30 days.
- If a file has been permanently deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, it cannot be recovered.
- If the photos are not found in search, Personal Vault, local storage, or the OneDrive Recycle Bin, support guidance says they usually cannot be retrieved.
If the account is a work or school account, deleted items may be kept for 93 days, and an administrator may be able to investigate further.
