Hi Janelle Pearson,
I understand how concerning it is when important photos appear to be missing, especially when OneDrive still shows that they have not reached the end of the 30-day retention period.
The 30-day message normally refers to how long deleted items are retained, but the photos may not appear in the standard Recycle Bin view if they were stored in Personal Vault. Please sign in to OneDrive on the web, open Recycle bin, and check whether Show Personal Vault items is available. Select it, unlock Personal Vault, and look for the photos again.
If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription and the photos disappeared within the last 30 days, you can also try Restore your OneDrive. Choose a restore point from before the photos disappeared and carefully review the selected activities before proceeding, as this rolls back other OneDrive changes made after that point.
It would also help to confirm:
- Is this a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
- Did you delete the photos yourself, or did they disappear unexpectedly?
- Do you see the 30-day message on the OneDrive website, mobile app, or somewhere else?
You may also check the Windows Recycle Bin, Mac Trash, or the device’s Photos/Files app in case the pictures were stored locally and had not finished syncing to OneDrive.
Please note that if the photos were permanently removed from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, OneDrive cannot restore them through its built-in recovery options. For additional account-specific guidance, you can contact Microsoft Support. Thank you so much for your understanding.
