Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Dear Karen Tidler,
This issue can be caused by several factors, and the fact that it occurs intermittently (about once a week) suggests the problem may be related to the Outlook application itself. Some common causes include:
- Corrupted Outlook cache or local app data.
- Temporary service connectivity issues when Outlook is starting.
- Conflicts with Windows updates or Outlook updates.
In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Step 1: Check whether you can access your mailbox and calendar through Outlook on the web when the issue occurs. If the web version works, the problem is likely specific to the New Outlook app.
Step 2: Sign out of New Outlook and sign back in.
Step 3: Repair the New Outlook app:
Close Outlook > Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Find Outlook (new) > Select Advanced options > Choose Repair first, and if the issue continues, Reset
Note: Make sure Windows and Outlook are fully updated.
Step 4: Check whether the error appears after waking the computer from sleep, after VPN usage, or after network changes, as these can sometimes affect account authentication.
However, if the problem persists, to help narrow down the cause, could you let me know:
- Does the problem occur only in the New Outlook app, or does Outlook on the web show the same behavior?
- Are other users in your organization experiencing the same issue?
- If you switch back to classic Outlook (if available), does the same issue occur?
- Do you receive any additional error details or error codes when the launch failure happens? If possible, could you please provide a screenshot of the error message the next time it occurs?
If you have any questions or if I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to your update.
