- Reconnect the mouse
- Unplug the mouse or its USB receiver.
- Wait a little while, then plug it back in.
- If it is a wired mouse, plug the USB cable directly into the laptop.
- Try a different USB port
- Even if one USB port works, try another port on the laptop.
- If a USB hub or dock is being used, remove it and connect the mouse directly to the laptop.
- Check the mouse itself
- Make sure the cable is not damaged.
- If the mouse uses batteries, make sure they are charged or replace them with fresh batteries.
- Make sure there is no dirt blocking the mouse sensor.
- If it is a wireless mouse
- Look on the bottom of the mouse for a Reset button.
- If it uses a USB wireless receiver, unplug the receiver, wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
- If it is a Bluetooth mouse, check the Bluetooth connection in Windows.
- Test whether the mouse works on another PC
- If it does not work on another PC either, the mouse may need to be replaced.
- Some devices need the correct driver installed when tested on another PC.
- Check mouse settings in Windows
- Windows 11: Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse
- Windows 10: Start > Settings > Devices > Mouse
If the mouse is a USB wireless model, it will not appear as a Bluetooth device. In that case, connect it with its USB receiver instead of trying to pair it through Bluetooth.
