Yes—there is still a recovery path to try, but if the attacker changed the sign-in alias and removed the original security info, recovery may no longer be possible.

    Recommended steps:

    1. Start with the Microsoft sign-in helper and enter the original email address or phone number associated with the account. It can provide the correct self-help flow or offer the option to talk to an agent.
    2. If access to the PC used with that account still exists, run a full malware scan before changing or resetting any password:
      • Open Windows Security
      • Go to Virus and threat protection
      • Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now
    3. If sign-in is still possible through any recovery method, change or reset the password immediately.
    4. If access is restored, review account settings that attackers commonly change:
      • Connected accounts
      • Forwarding
      • Automatic replies
    5. If unusual sign-in alerts were received before losing access, check the Security basics page and use Review activity. If suspicious activity appears, select This wasn't me or Secure your account where available.
    6. If the account now says the Gmail address “doesn’t exist,” that can happen when an attacker changes the account’s sign-in alias or security information.

    Important limitation:

    • Community guidance in the provided material states that when a hacked Microsoft account has had its associated information changed, such as the email address, recovering the account may no longer be possible.
    • If the standard hacked-account recovery process does not work, the account may not be recoverable.

Support options mentioned in the provided material:

    • Use the hacked-account recovery guidance and sign-in helper first.
    • If more help is needed, use I need to talk to a customer support agent.
    • If this is a work or school account, use Help with a work or school account password instead.
