THREE QUESTIONS -- FIRST IS I NEED TO KNOW WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE NEEDLESS UPDATES AND THE SHUTTING DOWN OF MY COMPUTER THAT IS LEFT ON OVERNIGHT TO PREVENT THE LOSS OF 90 HOURS OF ART WORK -SLATED FOR AN EXHIBIT IN PARIS IN OCTOBER. THIS IS OLD TERRITORY BUT THE IDENTICAL COMPLAINT -- WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEEDLESS SHUTTING DOWN OF COMPUTERS ESPECIALLY WHEN THE UPDATES DO NOT APPLY TO MY USE NOR INTEREST. YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR -- YOU CONDUCT HARMFUL ACTIONS BY NOT CARING ONE BIT & LOSING MATERIALS THAT ARE NOT YOURS TO DESTROY

Q 2 - I AM FORCED TO "SIGN IN TO COMMENT "" DOES MICROSOFT SIGN IN BEFORE SCREWING UP MY TWO WEEKS OF BUSTING MY ASS?? NO!! YOU JUST ACT LIKE CRIMINALS. AND I DONT USE ONE DRIVE SO HOW THE HELL DO I RECOVER THE AWESOME ARTWORKS THAT I CREATED OVER THIS TIME??? GOD IF I COULD STRANGLE WHOM EVER IS RESPONSIBLE I WOULD DO THAT VERY THING! I HOPE THE MESSAGE STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY COMPUTER WILL REGISTER WITH YOU PRETENTIOUS IDIOTS --- NOT EVERYBODY USES A ELECTRONIC DEVICE THE WAY YOU MIGHT --- THERE HAS TO BE A TOGGLE "DO NOT UPDATE - CREATIVE ARTWORK IN PROGRESS"" OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT HOW CRIMINAL OF YOU!! I AM TRULY PISSED RIGHT NOW!!

Q3 - NOW HOW DO I RECOVER ALL OF 12 SEPTEMBER 2026 WORK??? THANK YOU!!

I hear how upsetting this is — losing work you were counting on for a Paris exhibit is a genuinely serious problem, not a minor inconvenience.

I am trying to give you answer:

    Q1: Turn on Pause updates

Settings → Windows Update → "Pause updates for 1 week," repeatable up to 5 weeks total. This is the closest thing to a full off-switch and is the most reliable option through your exhibit deadline.

Q2: You do not need OneDrive to recover files stored locally on a Windows PC.

If the files are on the internal SSD/HDD, they can potentially be recovered directly from the drive using:

    Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

    Another working PC

    A USB-to-SATA/NVMe adapter or enclosure

    Disk/partition recovery software

OneDrive is only relevant if the files were actually synchronized to OneDrive.

    Windows File Recovery

Q 3: What artwork program? Where were the files normally saved?

Check for autosave/recovery files in your actual art software first — this is the most likely place to find it intact.

For example, in Photoshop: Edit → look for "Auto-Recover"

    check %AppData%\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [version]\AutoRecover

Here is a video on how to disable auto updates:

As for recovery of lost data, this will depend on the application tools you used. Application are sent a shutdown notice, and they are supposed to save their state, so they can recover from a restart. Your tools apparently failed at this. For each tool check their support for recovery methods if possible.

THAT RESPONSE IS A COWARDLY UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE -- THERE HAS TOBE A MEANS TORECOVER ALL THE WORKS AT LEAST OF SEPTEMBER THE 12 2026 BECAUSE I AM NOT THE PERSON TO SHUT DOWN MY COMPUTER -- SOME EVENT OR SOME ONE ON YOUR END IS MINDLESSLY CARELESS, INCONSIDERATE AND AS I SAY IN MY TITLE "THIS IS NOT NEW TERRITORY' YOU MS PEOPLE ARE NOT THAT SMART. I RECOMMEND THAT AT LEAST 4 OR SO PERSONS WITH A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY SIT TOGETHER & FIGURE OUT "HOW ABOUT A DO NOT SHUT DOWN FEATURE" I HAVE NEEDLESSLY AND UNDESERVEDLY LOST SO MUCH WORK TO MS BAD IDEAS --THIS IS A GOOD ONE TO FIGURE OUT
