Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hello,
An account cannot assign an administrator role to itself. Please follow the scenario that applies:
- If this account belongs to an existing organization, another administrator who has permission to manage role assignments must sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Users > Active users, select your account, and choose Manage roles to assign the appropriate role.
- If you personally purchased and completed the setup of your organization’s Microsoft 365 for business subscription, you will be assigned the Global Administrator role by default. As a test, open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window and sign in at the admin center using the exact work or school account used during setup. This helps rule out a different cached Microsoft account being selected.
Microsoft’s instructions are available here: Assign admin roles in the Microsoft 365 admin center
If you still cannot proceed, please provide:
- The complete error message displayed with the correlation ID
- The URL or page where the error occurs
- Whether this is a newly created tenant or an account provided by an existing organization
- Whether another administrator can access the admin center
- A screenshot of the complete error, with your email address, tenant ID, and other personal information masked
Please feel free to let me know if you have any updates. I look forward to hearing from you.
