Missing Teams Personal meeting recording – doctoral dissertation defense, still within 30-day retention period

I urgently need help locating or recovering a Microsoft Teams Personal meeting recording.

The meeting was my doctoral dissertation defense, held on August 25, 2026, from 10:07 AM to 12:04 PM (1h 57m 40s). The meeting was created from a Teams personal account with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

During the meeting, I started recording and clearly remember seeing the red recording indicator. However, no recording is now visible in the meeting chat.

I have already checked:

  • the original meeting chat in Teams desktop and web;
  • Teams search and Meeting Chats;
  • OneDrive/My Files;
  • OneDrive Recycle Bin;
  • searches for the meeting title, “recording,” and MP4 files.

The original meeting and its chat history are still accessible, including the meeting start and end events, but there is no recording card or recording file.

Microsoft documentation states that Teams Personal recordings are stored in the cloud and remain available in the meeting chat for 30 days. The meeting occurred only 19 days ago, so it should still be within that retention period.

This recording is extremely important to me. It is the only complete video record of my doctoral dissertation defense and represents the culmination of a nine-year doctoral journey.

Could a Microsoft moderator please advise how I can have Microsoft check whether a recording artifact, temporary recording, or recoverable recording associated with this meeting still exists server-side?

If this requires escalation beyond Community support, I would greatly appreciate instructions for reaching the appropriate Microsoft technical support team. I can provide the meeting link, screenshots, account details, and any meeting identifiers required.

Thank you very much.

    Meeting recordings with a personal account are only saved to Cloud, nowhere else. A link to this recording file should be available in the meeting chat. If there is no link available, then the recording was probably not successful. One of the reasons for a filed recording can be that you have left the meeting without first stopping this recording.

    You can try to export your entire chat and files history from the Cloud and look for this recording file in the export file.

    https://teams.live.com/dataexport/

    If available, the recording file will be present in the \media folder as a .mp4 file.

    Follow these instructions on how to download and extract the export file.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/teams/free/settings/export-or-delete-your-data-in-microsoft-teams-free

    Note also that if you are on a Windows 11 computer with the latest updates, then the .tar export file can be extracted directly in Windows File Explorer.
