The KB5124008 update has disabled my external Lexicon Alpha Studio audio interface.
There are numerous reports on forums indicating that this issue is affecting many users. I am receiving Error Code 10: the device is detected and appears in the system, but Windows is unable to start it.
Unfortunately, I reinstalled my system because I initially thought I had a virus, and now I cannot even uninstall this update because it is integrated into the Windows installation media.
I am 100% certain that the update is causing the problem. I tested the device on another computer, where it works perfectly, and the USB port itself is also functioning correctly. I also installed an older version of Windows that does not include this update, and the Lexicon Alpha works normally there as well.
This clearly indicates that KB5124008 is causing the incompatibility.
We kindly ask Microsoft to investigate this issue and release a fix as soon as possible. This update has rendered a perfectly functional audio interface unusable for many users.
A major update came out today (2026_09_15), but they still haven’t fixed the issue. I guess Microsoft doesn’t really care that they broke the work tools of tens of thousands of people with a single update.
At the very least, the company could make an older installer available in the meantime so people can actually get back to work. But they haven’t acknowledged anywhere on any official forum that they were at fault.
This is why more and more people are switching to Mac.
The KB5124008 is being widely reported as causing problems with external USB audio devices, Microsoft have acknowledged they are aware of the problem and they are working to resolve this with an out of band update, in the meantime, the best option is to uninstall that KB5124008 update and pause your updates until Microsoft resolve the problem, keep an eye on this link until they indicate they have resolved the problem before installing that update again.
Can I officially download a Windows 11 Pro multi-language installer that does not yet include this update?
