I have another Outlook account, but I simply cannot remember the password. My attempts to recover it have been unsuccessful because I have absolutely no recollection of the details needed to get help.

    Hello, I’m Virginia.

How long is it since you signed in? If over 2 years then the account most likely has been deleted due to lack of use.

Check your browser’s password feature to see if the details were saved otherwise try recovering the account.

    Try recovering your account here:

    Can’t sign in:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/you-can-t-sign-in-to-your-microsoft-account-475c9b5c-8c25-49f1-9c2d-c64b7072e735

You can try also https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact & type Account Recovery in the box, then choose the Contact Support tab above & select Windows, then recovery from the drop down menus.

If none of the above work then you’ll require the account recovery form:

    https://account.live.com/acsr

Please note if you have 2/multi factor authentication active on your account then you cannot use the form to recover the account.

If you’re successful in changing the details then you may find that the account is limited for 30 days, this is a security feature & cannot be circumvented.

Please be aware that if the email address has been changed to that of the hacker &/or 2fa/mfa has been enabled then usually there’s nothing which can be done.

If the password cannot be remembered and the recovery details also cannot be recalled, the supported recovery path is:

    1. Start with the Sign-in Helper. It checks the account details provided and guides the next steps.
    2. If password reset options are shown, use Forgot password and complete identity verification with a code.
    3. If the listed verification email or phone options are not recognized or cannot be accessed, use the Account recovery form.
    4. Complete the recovery form from a device and location previously used for that account, if possible. Provide a working email address that can receive Microsoft’s response.
    5. Before filling out the form, check whether old passwords may be saved in Microsoft Edge, Windows Web Credentials, Chrome, Mac Keychain, or iCloud Keychain.

    Important limits:

    • If two-step verification is turned on and none of the alternate verification methods can be accessed, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
    • Microsoft reviews recovery form answers and responds within 24 hours.
