A company has tried to contact me via e mail and I have not received it. They verified my email address over the phone, and it was correct. Is there an issue with this account, please?

1 -- Check with the sender and ask if they received a Non-Delivery Report (aka NDR, "Bounce Message") saying that the Microsoft Mail servers have refused to deliver to your account?

2 -- If you know the domain (the part after the "@") in the sender's email address you can check it yourself (or have them do the check) using an on-line tool.

    [External Non-Microsoft Sites]

If it fails any of the The "Impersonation" or SPF/DMARC/DKIM test, then Microsoft will probably not deliver it to your mailbox.

    Hi Scott,

Goodday. Missing email doesn't always mean there is a problem with your account. The email may have been filtered, blocked, or rejected before it reached your inbox. Check first the most common causes:

    1. Check your Junk Email folder. Open Outlook and check Junk Email. You can also search your mailbox using the company's name or the sender's email address.
    2. Check your blocked senders. Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email and check Blocked senders and domains. Make sure the company's email address or domain isn't listed there.
    3. Check your rules. Go to Settings > Mail > Rules. Look for any rule that may be moving, deleting, or forwarding incoming emails.
    4. Try to send an email to that account of yours using a different email. Check if it will receive the mail or if it will bounce-back. If the delivery failed, it usually being followed by a bounce back mail.
    5. Ask the company to send the email again. Ask them to confirm the exact email address they are sending to. Also ask if they received a bounce-back or delivery failure message. If they did, that message can help show why the email wasn't delivered.

If the company says the email was successfully delivered but you still can't find it, the next thing to check is whether the message was filtered before it reached your mailbox. Ask the company if they are receiving a bounce-back or delivery failure mail, if possible ask them if they can share what it says or its content.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Jhun

If this is Outlook.com, there may not be an issue with the account itself. A common cause is that the message never reached the mailbox, or it was filtered out before it became visible.

    Check these items in Outlook.com:

    1. Other tab: Make sure the message did not land under Other.
    2. Junk Email: Check both Junk Email settings and the Junk Email folder. If a message is there, mark it as not junk.
    3. Sort and filters: Make sure the message list is sorted by Filter > Sort > Date so messages are easier to find.
    4. Forwarding: Verify email forwarding is not enabled.
    5. Rules: Check whether a rule is moving or deleting messages.
    6. Mailbox/cloud storage: If Microsoft cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email, and messages sent while storage was full are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.

If the message is still missing after those checks, ask the sender whether they received a non-delivery report or rejection message. In some cases, Microsoft blocks messages before they reach the mailbox because the sender’s domain or sending IP fails authentication or is blocked. In that case, the sender must correct their email authentication settings or follow Microsoft’s sender remediation process.

If the missing message is a Microsoft verification email, valid messages come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com and may also appear in Junk Email.
