Microsoft family safety bugfix request

My parents have not banned Firefox, but it does not work and so does any other browser except Edge, so can you fix this bug of family safety accidently banning safe apps?

    This is expected Family Safety behavior, not a bug fix that can be applied directly from the device.

    Microsoft Family Safety web filtering only fully works with Microsoft Edge. When web and search filtering is turned on, unsupported browsers such as Firefox are blocked by default so filtering cannot be bypassed. A parent or guardian can manually unblock a browser in App and game filters or Content filters, but Microsoft notes that web and search features may not work properly in those browsers.

    If Firefox and other browsers are closing or not opening on Windows 10, use this path:

    1. Have the organizer open Microsoft Family Safety or family.microsoft.com.
    2. Select the child account.
    3. Go to Content filters / Web and search.
    4. Check whether Filter inappropriate websites or Filter inappropriate websites and searches is turned on.
    5. If it is on, the organizer can manually unblock the browser in App and game filters.

    If the issue is that Chrome or another unsupported browser shuts down unexpectedly instead of showing an approval prompt, Microsoft documented that behavior on Windows 10 22H2 when Activity reporting is turned off. The documented workaround is to turn on Activity reporting in Family Safety so approval requests can be received as expected.

    Microsoft also documented that:

    • unsupported browsers may temporarily appear unblocked when a browser updates to a new version until Microsoft updates the block list
    • the browser shutdown issue was mitigated by a service-side fix rollout, and the missing parental consent prompt was fixed in the July non-security preview update (KB5062649) and later updates

    Hey there, Ahaan Arora

    By default Microsoft, Microsoft Family Safety will block other web browsers by default. This is due to the Family Safety features not being compatible with those web browsers, which resulted in children being able to bypass restrictions in place set by parents/carers.

    Instead, what your parents/carers will need to do is sign into the Microsoft Family Safety page here: https://account.microsoft.com/family/home

    They will need to click onto your Microsoft account, then click onto apps & features by scrolling down where it says devices and apps, features and games.

    From there, your parents will be able to unblock Firefox so you can use it.

    In terms of sending feedback to Microsoft, on the main Microsoft Family page at the bottom right-hand corner, you can submit feedback directly to the Microsoft Family product group. From there, they can review any feedback provided and decide if they are able to implement it.
