Do I need to subscribe to 365 in order to access MS Exchange for my emails to and from Outlook Classic

A week or so ago, I became aware I could no longer Reply, or Forward emails I received, using Outlook Classic and MS Exchange, with a personal account. I have been paying $4.00/month, for years, for MS Exchange. When I finally got through to MS Help, they told me that I needed to subscribe to 365 at another $10.00/month. At all times I had 2024 Office Professional installed on my PC; used Outlook Classic and paid for MS Exchange. I have a Trial Subscription to 365. Can I let it expire and resume my previous usage without interruption? OR, I transferred my domain/email address to MS Exchange from GoDaddy. Would it be easier to reverse the process?

    Hi, Richard Forman

The $4/month Exchange Online Plan 1 provides the mailbox and custom-domain email service, but it does not include a license for the Outlook desktop app. Current licensing requires Classic Outlook to be activated by an account that includes Microsoft 365 desktop-app rights.

Therefore, if the Microsoft 365 trial expires, your mailbox should remain available through Outlook on the web as long as Exchange Online Plan 1 stays active. However, Classic Outlook may no longer work fully unless your Office 2024 purchase provides a valid, supported Outlook license.

Before canceling, check File > Office Account > Product Information in Classic Outlook. Also check Billing > Your products in the Microsoft 365 admin center to confirm exactly which Exchange and Office licenses are active. Turn off recurring billing if you do not want the trial to convert automatically.

I would not move the domain back to GoDaddy just to solve this. Changing providers requires DNS and mailbox migration and could interrupt mail delivery. It is better to confirm the licensing issue first.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
