Charged for Azure Subscription

I am being charged for running claude opus 5 which I thought was covered by my Microsoft for Startup Azure Subscription. I did not really check if it was covered and I admit my mistake but I am at the same time having a difficult time trying to request support. Any help out there?

Hello @bayar - That's not something I can answer. Whether a goodwill adjustment is possible is a decision for Azure billing support rather than a documented policy.

Hi @bayar - The charge is expected, unfortunately. Anthropic models aren't covered by Microsoft for Startups credits, and Microsoft names them specifically.

From Sponsorship Coverage for Microsoft Foundry Models:

"The following providers with popular models are not covered by sponsorship credits: Anthropic, Cohere (select models), Hugging Face, Meta (select models), Mistral AI (select models)"

Credits only apply to models sold and billed directly by Azure. Partner models are billed separately by the provider. So since the charge isn't an error, you may not need a support ticket at all.

For next time, the same page gives you the check: in the Foundry portal, use the Direct from Azure collection. Models in there draw down your credits, anything outside it doesn't.

Charges can still happen on a Microsoft for Startups Azure subscription when the service is not covered by Azure credits, when credits are exhausted, or when usage is happening in a different billing profile or account. Microsoft for Startups also requires a credit card for services not covered by credits and for transition to pay-as-you-go.

To get this resolved, open an Azure billing support request in the Azure portal:

Sign in to the Azure portal.
Go to Help + Support or search for Cost Management + Billing.
Select Create a support request or New support request.
Enter Billing as the issue.
Select the affected subscription.
If the portal shows suggested articles or refund options, do not stop there. Select Create a support request.
If the portal loops back to suggested solutions again, select Return to support request.
Complete the remaining details and submit the case.

For Microsoft for Startups program help, requests are submitted through the Azure portal:

Go to the Azure portal.
Navigate to the startup homepage.
In Overview, find Your Microsoft Team.
Select Get program support.

Use Azure Product & Billing Support for subscription and billing problems. Use Microsoft for Startups Program Support for program or benefit questions.

To verify whether credits have appeared or are being applied, check Cost Management + Billing > Payment methods. After activation, credits can take several hours to appear.
