I purchased a Windows 11 Pro license from the official Microsoft website (https://www.microsoft.com/) and received an email confirming the purchase and containing the product key. My question is: can I find this product key somewhere else, or is it stored only in the email, meaning I am responsible for saving it myself? The purchase appears in my order history at https://account.microsoft.com/, but the key is not listed there.

    Hello

    It is a digital license at the same time, so your Microsoft account serves as the license.

    Very important - when you transfer license from device to device, with digital license, you do NOT want to remove the license from the old device. You also do not want to remove the old device from your Msft account. You want to transfer the license first before you remove old license.

    To transfer, go to Settings > System > Activation, run the troubleshooter, choose the hardware change option. When it asks you where it is installed on right now, you should choose the old device name. Then click on Activate button. And on the next screen when it asks you where to transfer it to, choose your new device name.

    ==============

    So, you may not need to use the actual 5x5 key much, but in the case you accidentally remove the old device before transfering the license to the new device, this key will come to rescue. So you do want to keep it safe. You won't find it anywhere else in your account, or in your installed Windows. So yes, it is your responsbility to keep it safe.

    Hello @IhnatiiM-5451

    When you buy a License from Microsoft it is usually linked permanently to you Email or Microsoft account. That’s why you’re not seeing it in your order history at account.microsoft.com — the order record confirms the purchase.

    Meaning you would need to have access to the email address to reactivate it later or if you loose the access.

    In short

    When you buy Windows 11 Pro from Microsoft.com, the product key itself is only sent in the confirmation email, but once you activate it your PC gets a digital license (formerly digital entitlement) tied to your hardware and Microsoft account; that means you don’t need the key again for reinstalls on the same machine because Windows will auto‑activate online, while your order history just shows the purchase record without re‑listing the key, so the email is your responsibility to save if you ever want to transfer the license to another device.

    Best regards.

    Abhishek
